Tips for an accurate read
  • Take it out of the sleeve or toploader. Plastic hides wear and adds glare.
  • Lay it flat on a plain, dark surface (a black mousepad or t-shirt works).
  • Shoot straight down, filling the frame, with the whole card and a little background visible.
  • Even light without glare: by a window or under a ceiling light, not the phone flash.
  • For dents, bends and print lines, tilt the card under a light and look yourself. Photos straight-on rarely show them.
